<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Introduction to Surah Mulk</h3>



<p class="has-text-align-left">Surah Al-Mulk (سورة الملك) 1-30 is the most beloved and easy-to-memorize surah in the Quran. Surah Mulk is also known as the 67th surah in the Quran. The main meaning of this surah is “<a href="https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dominion" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dominion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dominion</a>” and the word Mulk means “<a href="https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/kingship" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/kingship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">kingships</a>”. Surah Al Mulk is believed to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in Makkah during the early years of Islam.</p>



<p>It has 2 Ruku and 30 Ayayts (verses). Surah Al Mulk is divided into three main sections, such as the nature of Allah, the creation of the universe, and the Day of Judgment. Each section deals with a different aspect and meaning. The main theme of this Al-Mulk is:</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">What is Surah Mulk? (Central Theme)</h3>



<p>As per the majority of the ‘Mufassareen’, Surah Mulk (<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Mulk#:~:text=Al%2DMulk%20(Arabic%3A%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%84%D9%83,the%20Quran%2C%20comprising%2030%20verses." data-type="link" data-id="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Mulk#:~:text=Al%2DMulk%20(Arabic%3A%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%84%D9%83,the%20Quran%2C%20comprising%2030%20verses." target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Chapter of Kingdom</a>), also known as Surah e Tabarrak, (Chapter of Intense Blessing), is a Makki Surah that forms an integral part of the 29th Juz of the Quran. It is the first Surah grouped in the seventh and last section of it’s compilation.</p>



<p>It is a relatively short chapter, consisting of a mere 30 ayats, but the subject matter is intense and dramatic, commanding the attention of the audience from the very first ayah. The Surah mainly deals with the topic of ‘Tauba’ and portrays vivid imagery of the day of judgment. Hellfire and the plight of the inhabitants of Jahanam. Just before they are about to be cast into the raging ‘Saeer’ (one of the levels of Hell),.</p>



<p>It is this kind of dramatic imagery, rather than just an outright command to seek Allah’s repentance, that often compels the reader or listener to immediately seek Allah’s (SWT) forgiveness and perform ‘tauba’ by turning to him and trying to mend errant ways. This Surah has been revealed, in my opinion, for the most arrogant of sinners: those who sin incessantly but don’t see any need to repent.</p>



<p>Many of us have been overcome by our Nafs (egos) and do not even realise that our actions are driven mostly by pride and arrogance. It is only because of the ‘Rahma’ (Mercy) of Allah Almighty that we, possibly the worst of sinners, are shown a preview of sorts, like a film’s trailer, or a foreseeing into a future that may await us beyond this life. This terrifying glimpse is into the dreadful reality that awaits the most arrogant of sinners, one that we are told they cannot escape.</p>



<p>Allah (SWT), in His absolute mercy, instills in the listener or reader great fear of this terrible fate and great awe in his power over our destinies. This is not for the purpose of our becoming terrified of Allah (SWT) or because Allah Almighty is in need of our awe or terror, because that would imply Allah (SWT) needs his creation, and Allah (SWT) is, in fact, free of all needs and omnipotent over everything. It is, in fact, a manifestation of his mercy and a warning to man, guiding him to return to his original form and to reflect Allah’s most beautiful names.</p>



<p>We are shown this horror trailer in order that we seek his forgiveness during our lifetimes and become capable of being guided to our paths of salvation. The Surah is broken up into three main parts. The first part introduces the reader to Allah’s (SWT) greatness, where his dominion over everything is established. The second part is a conversation between those being thrown into ‘Jahannam’ and the ‘Khazanatun’, angles who are the gatekeepers of this hell.</p>



<p>The third is a direct dialogue between Allah Almighty and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, where our beloved Rasool (SAW) is being instructed to warn the disbelievers about the consequences of their actions. Our Nabi ﷺ must tell them that even he (SAW) the ‘Rehmat e Aalamin’ has not and will not be exempt from Allah’s trials during his lifetime.</p>



<p>What guarantee was there for the disbelievers to be saved on the day of judgment? The only way anyone stands a chance in Allah’s count is if they seek his pardon and are granted ‘Maghfirah’ (forgiveness) through his rahma (mercy). Allah Almighty is, after all, ‘Ghafoor ur Raheem’ (most forgiving, most compassionate). The gate to paradise is unlocked not by Allah’s forgiveness but by the key of his- encompassing mercy. A great takeaway from this is a reminder for Allah’s creation to display forgiveness and mercy as well.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center h2">Importance and Benefits Of Surah Al-Mulk</h2>

So surah tabarak is one of the most important surahs in the Quran because the surah focuses on seeking forgiveness from Allah through one important means, and that is to demonstrate the power and magnificence of Allah.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Benefits of Reading Surah Al-Mulk</h3>



<p>If you want to see a surah that creates that impression of total absolute fear in the heart of a slave god who believes in Allah on the last day, then this is the Surah Al Mulk because it creates all that inspiring all of the massive magnitude of the power of the might of Allah, and that is why Allah starts with the surah Al-Mulk we’re talking about:</p>



<p class="has-text-align-center read has-medium-font-size"><strong>(۱) تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِیْ بِیَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ٘- وَهُوَعَلٰى كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرُ</strong></p>



<p>And that’s what Allah says do you see all human beings if you don’t lisen to what i’ve just said that if the person that is with you the water with which you drink and that you are thristy but without which you will die with in a day or two right this water if someone wants to prevent the water from you who is there than Allah who can send the water back and we know that every single thing depend on water whether you think everything surrounds that economy guess what the economy surrounds agriculture guess what agriculture depends on water if you think the economy is there then the economy depends on cattle capital depends on water; everything depends on water; like our living depends on water so Allah demonstrates his magnificent power through the surah in Surah mulk this was revealed for the most arrogant of sinners, We know we have sinners, and all people are sinners, I’m a sinner, you are a sinner, everyone’s a sinner, but the best of sinners are the ones who repent, and Jannaha and Jahannam were created both for sinners.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Significance of Surah Al-Mulk in the Quran</h3>



<p>Jahannam was not created just for those who sin; Jahhan was also created for those who sin, but Jannah was created for those who sin and then repent. But Jahannam was created for those who sin but don’t repent. So, this Surah was revealed for those people who are the most arrogant sinners, the most arrogant, haughty, proud sinners, those who think that, you know, I am the greatest, and there’s no one greater than me, and who is there that can take me into account? and I will never die, and I’m the one who has the most money and wealth. Who is there greater in health, money, women, and children than me?</p>



<p>So Sura Mulk is for the most arrogant of the most arrogant people. It is for this reason that this surah deals with the topics of tawbah in a very different way, without telling you to repent Allah causes you to repent without telling you. Allah (SWT) makes you repent. Why? Because you are filled with an understanding of the magnitude of Allah (SWT).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center h2">Content and Interpretation</h2>



<p>So, let’s learn about this Surah, full of depth, revealed in Makkah by the ijam of the scholars of Tafsee. So it is a makki surah, and the surahs of Makkan origin are the surahs that deal a lot with the <a href="https://fiqh.islamonline.net/en/signs-of-the-day-of-judgment-past-present-future/" data-type="link" data-id="https://fiqh.islamonline.net/en/signs-of-the-day-of-judgment-past-present-future/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">day of judgment</a>, a lot with Jahannam, and a lot with Jannah. It deals a lot with the reality we are all facing. That’s why Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:</p>



<p class="has-text-align-center read"><strong>“If you knew what I know, you would not find pleasure in sleeping with your wives”</strong></p>



<p> Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said another authentic hadith:</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Full English Translation of Surah Al-Mulk</h3>



<p>Right? If you knew what I know, Allaha Huakbar, this is a reality that we must connect with today, which is the reality of our aakhirah in Surah Al Mulk. Let’s continue, inshallah. Surah-e Mulk is divided into a number of parts. The first part of this Sura talks about Allah (SWT), his greatness, his blessings, and his creations. How Allah (SWT) has created the sky in this amazing glory and this amazing greatness. He talks about the sky as an example to show you the perfectness of the creation of Allah Azzawajal. If a creation, which is a sky, is so perfect, imagine how perfect Allah is!</p>



<p>What does Salam mean? Salam means peace, but salam, the name of Allah, does not mean peace. Salam, the name of Allah, means perfectness. He is the perfect god. So, why is he As-Salam? Because he is perfect in every way—perfect in his name, perfect in his attributes, perfect in every single way. His words are perfect, his actions are perfect, and that is why there is no blemish in anything that Allah (SWT) does.</p>



<p>The blemish is only in our minds, only in our inability to understand and comprehend, and that’s why Allah is AS-SALAM. So Allah gives one example of the perfectness of Allah and that is to talk about the skies and look at the excellence of the skies How perfect is it? Therefore, you will know how great Allah is!</p>



<p>Then, in the second part of the first page of Mulk, Allah (SWT) moves into talking about how, as people are being thrown into Jahannam, there is a conversation that will take place between them and the khazana and the 19 angels that look after Jahannam, and there’s also a man that has been created, and his name is SUHQ, and this man also speaks to the people of Jahannam.</p>



<p>Allah (SWT) talks about the conversation that will take place between the Khazanati Jahannam, who are the angels that are guarding Jahannam, and the people that are being thrown into Jahannam. He also talks about this, and he describes it in such an amazing descriptive way that you actually feel like you’re really there.</p>



<p>Then Allah (SWT) moves on to the 2nd page of Surah Mulk and talks about whether you believe in this or not; indeed, Allah will take you into account. Then he talks about the greatness of the signs of Allah. Talking about how many times Allah has done it for you. The earth and how Allah has outstretched it. The water that has been given to drink. He has made everything easy for us. The valleys that he has created for us in between the beautiful mountains are stakes in the ground.</p>



<p>Allah talks about this; Allah talks about the birds and how the birds fly in the sky. Allah (SWT) talks about how we live in this dunya. Imagine how we live in this dunya, despite Allah’s ability to give us an earthquake or huge, frightening lightning or thunder that would come down from the sky and destroy us, just like Allah destroyed the army of the feel and so Allah (SWT) scares his ibaad and he scares his slavers by saying,</p>



<p>Do you have a guarantee that Allah will not cause an earthquake right now? Do you have a guarantee that Allah will not cause the earth to tremble under you right now? Do you have a guarantee that you will not die right now when you leave outside? You have no guarantees. No one has a guarantee of the mockery of Allah except for those who disbelieve. So, we have no guarantee at all. </p>



<p>In one authentic narration, it was reported that one of the salaf-us-Salih said:</p>



<p>I met all of the 10 of the sahaban that were promised Jannah, the <a href="https://lifeinsaudiarabia.net/10-jannati-sahaba-ashra-mubashara/" data-type="link" data-id="https://lifeinsaudiarabia.net/10-jannati-sahaba-ashra-mubashara/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">10 Ashra Mubashshireen</a>, and he said that every single one of the 10 Ashra Mubashshireen was afraid that they were hypocrites. Every single one of them was afraid that whatever good was happening around them was a mockery of Allah; just before they died, they might enter Jahannam. So they were all afraid, and so they led their lives in fear of Allah (SWT).</p>



<p>So, Allah (SWT) carries on, and he talks about how, if Allah does not help you, who will provide for you? Allah is the one who provides for the birds. So who will provide for you? Which army will provide for you? Which god will provide for you? How will you ever save yourselves? This is what Allah (SWT) talks about in the second part of the Surah Al-Mulk. In the last part of the surah mulk, which is the third page, Allah (SWT) talks about when you see Jahannam on that day.</p>

<p>So Allah (SWT) finishes the Surah e Mulk by saying,</p>



<p>O people, If I can punish Muhammad ﷺ and his family by giving him difficulty in this Dunya, what will prevent you from having difficulty in this dunya and the Aakhirah? Muhammad ﷺ, who is so close to Allah, yet Rasulullah ﷺ had difficulty in his life. Did he not? All his male children passed away. Many of his daughters passed away before him. His sahabah died before him. His beloved wife died before him. His uncle died before him.</p>



<p>He was hit in battle. He had no food to eat for two months in a row sometimes, and he used to put stones on his stomach. Yet if Allah can put his most beloved into the most difficult situation, What is the guarantee? that you have that Allah will not punish you?</p>



<p>So repent to Allah (SWT) before your final end comes. That is why it was reported in a narration in the book of Tafseer that Shaitan came to Allah and he said, </p>



<p class="has-text-align-left">O Allah, I will never ever seize to misguide your slaves until I enter every single one of them into Jahannam. So, Allah replied to him and said, I will never ever seize to forgive them for all their sins as long as they seek forgiveness. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Read Tafseer of Surah Al-Mulk in English</h3>



<p>Allah Almighty started the Surah Mulk by saying ﷽ as always he starts all the chapters with this wonderful starting, which means; [In the name of Allah, the most compassion, the most merciful]. Then Allah Almighty saids,<em> </em><strong>تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِیْ بِیَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ٘- وَهُوَعَلٰى كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرُ</strong>, which means [Blessed is he in whose hand is dominion, and he is over all thing competent], he can do everything and anything. So, what it means is that when it started the Surah by saying,<strong>تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِیْ بِیَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ٘- وَهُوَعَلٰى كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرُ</strong>, Blessed is he, he is starring by blessing himself and glorifying himself and saying that all the barakah, all the blessing, all the mercy it comes from Allah Almighty.</p>



<p>He is also starting by glorifying himself by letting us know that he is the complete, he is the only one, he is the one who blesses other people, the blessings come from him, he is the source of the blessings, he is the source of barakah, and he is the one who gives all these barakah to everyone, and he is trying to tell us بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ in his hand the dominion of everything.</p>



<p>Imagine ٱلْمُلْكُ and also in other verses from the Quran, he says in Surah Mulk مَـٰلِكَ ٱلْمُلْكِ that he is the owner and dominion of all the entire world, everything in the whole universe; he can control it; he does everything in it. So, just imagine that he is controlling everything, everything literally; he is blessings; he is giving life; he is blessing and showing his mercy to the people and everything; he is the lord of everything; he is the one who created the whole human being.</p>



<p>Actually, today only, I was going through some figures and numbers and checking the population of the world, and I came to know that it is more than 7 billion and Allah Almighty is controlling all these seven billions and billions and billions came before, and the billions will come later on.</p>



<p>He is taking control of everything, he is taking control of the <a href="https://islamqa.info/en/answers/31865/were-the-heavens-and-earth-created-in-6-or-8-days" data-type="link" data-id="https://islamqa.info/en/answers/31865/were-the-heavens-and-earth-created-in-6-or-8-days" target="_blank" rel="noopener">heaven and the earth</a>, the <a href="https://topicsfromquran.com/2018/05/19/creation-of-skies-and-the-earth/" data-type="link" data-id="https://topicsfromquran.com/2018/05/19/creation-of-skies-and-the-earth/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">skies and the earth</a>, he is taking care of the sun and the moon, he is taking care of clouds and the rain and the wind, and every single thing is happening in this world. He is taken care of بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ, he is controlling over everything, and not only that, وَهُوَعَلٰى كُلِّ شَیْءٍ قَدِیْرُ, he is able and capable to do anything and everything.</p>



<p>As the scholar says, his command is between Kath and noon, which is kun between only two letters in Arabic, Kath and noon. He says something kun be, and it will be; he will not need time to make it; he will not read anything or anything; he does not need equipment or anything; he is the Lord who deserves to be worshipped.</p>



<p>Allah is controlling everything, the one who is controlling and managing everything. This is the Lord Allah Almighty, the one god, who deserves to be worshipped. Can you imagine that this is our Allah, this is our Lord, this is our Allah Almighty, he is the Lord of the universe? Then he says in verse number two,الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمٰوٰتٍ طِبَاقًاؕ-مَا تَرٰى فِیْ خَلْقِ الرَّحْمٰنِ مِنْ تَفٰوُتٍؕ-فَارْجِـعِ الْبَصَرَۙهَلْ تَرٰى مِنْ فُطُوْرٍ, which means, [He, who created death and life to test you, which of you is best in deed- and he is the exalted in might, the forgiving]. Now this is the translation, but let’s go deep into these meanings and understand.</p>



<p>First of all, he says<em>,</em>الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَیٰوةَ, he is the one who created death and life. Now even keep in mind that everything that Allah mentioned in the Quran, he mentioned it for hikmah, he mentioned it for some wisdom; there is wisdom behind it. So, what is the wisdom that Allah uses mouth first death first then life it should be the other way around right<a href="https://www.muslimaid.org/media-centre/blog/what-will-happen-after-death-according-to-islam/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.muslimaid.org/media-centre/blog/what-will-happen-after-death-according-to-islam/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> life and death</a>, but no Allah says the one who created death and life.</p>



<p>Why because Allah Almighty even created the death and we came out of nowhere we were actually before, you know where we were nowhere actually you know we were completely dead. Imagine that Allah Almighty in some other chapter says that, how you disbelieve in Allah Almighty and you were dead and he put you into life.</p>



<p>So even before existing in this world, we were dead; we were dead; we were living in the dead zone and who created the dead zone? Allah (SWT). That’s why the scholar says that we were dead we came to life; we will die again, and then Allah Almighty will resurrect us. So there are four ways and four levels in which we are dead. We were not you know exist in this world. Then Allah Almighty created that created us in this world, so we are alive then we all will die. لَّذِیْ خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ, we will die for sure, then Allah Almighty will create and will make you come again to life on the day of judgment.</p>



<p>So this is the process: death life death, and then after that, it’s unlimited life, either in hellfire or in paradise The choice is yours: which path do you want to select or which path do you want to choose? the path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the path of all the Prophets before him and the path of Allah Almighty or the path of your desire, the path of your own thinking by your thinking that okay, I want to worship an idol or something like that or you will say that, I want to worship nothing, because I want to worship my own desire because I don’t believe in god, I don’t believe in this and that the atheists understand the concept of atheism and whatever.</p>



<p>So, it’s your choice, you choose the guidance of the prophet and follow the path of Islam, or you just simply choose whatever you want to choose You might like a good life, a nice life and lavish life, but in the end, you will die, you will be resurrected on the day of judgment, you will pay for everything that you did and the end is unlimited, infinity, either in hellfire or paradise. So this is what he says:</p>

<p>So, imagine just before entering Sural Mulk and before starting this Surah, we are talking about all these beautiful meanings of it, and who recites it, the one who takes it to the daily routine, recites it every day every night before sleep. Also, it says that “Whoever recites Surah Mulk full before sleeping, Allah Almighty protects them from the punishment of the grave. The grave suddenly punishes every single person, believer or not believer.</p>



<p>Death comes upon the believer, and not believer. Once he goes to that grave, the punishment is coming. If he is a believer, he knows Allah Almighty, who is the lord, and knows what Sunnah is. What is the way of <a href="https://www.prophetmuhammad.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.prophetmuhammad.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Prophet Muhammad ﷺ</a>, the right path, he will be protected and the punishment goes away. But imagine the punishment is coming and angels will ask, Who is your Lord? What is your <a href="https://www.islamreligion.com/en" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.islamreligion.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">religion</a>? How do you live your life? and he will say, I don’t know, then the punishment will intercom over him. So, we want to protect ourselves from this, we don’t want to get or go through any kind of punishment, so because of that we don’t want to get into at least getting near to that.</p>



<p>So, the best solution and option is to follow the right path, the path that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told us, and follow the commitment of Allah Almighty and by that, you are protected. Reading this beloved Surah full will take only 10 minutes and you are reciting the complete Surah Mulk. So by that, we have arrived at the end, but we have lots of knowledge to share with you about Surah Al-Mulk. So, take care of yourself. Allah Hafiz!</p>
